“Look at the lilies and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing…if God cares so wonderfully for flowers…He will certainly care for you…” – Luke 12:27-28 (NLT)
We can become distracted so easily from God’s loving care through hard, long toil, adding a few extra hours here and there to make ends meet, and even depriving ourselves of sleep in the process. It is not that working hard is sinful. It is just that our long, hard toil many times yields only meagre temporary benefits.
How hard and long can we really toil just to put food on the table and clothes on our backs? How many hours can we keep adding to our daily toil just to ensure bills are paid or to secure a comfortable life?
Not that our efforts are in vain because since the beginning of time, God gave work to mankind (Genesis 2:15), and by hard work, we obtain a profit (Proverbs 14:23). For whatever we do, we are to work at it with all our heart, as working for the Lord (Colossians 3:23). Work, therefore, is honourable, but how far can we go?
Brothers and sisters, if our God cares so wonderfully for flowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, He certainly cares for us. Each day, flowers display a variety of awesome colours according to their species! This is really just a display of God’s glorious care. How much more will God take care of us? Beyond what we can imagine!
God’s loving care surpasses our human efforts. Though we work hard, let us not only rely on our human efforts but trust God, Who cares and provides (Genesis 9:3). God loves us and He will certainly care for us.
Prayer
Dear God, I will depend on You to take care of me. Thank You for meeting my every need according to Your riches in glory. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
